Inserts: Dos & Don'ts
Duvet and pillow inserts come with their own set of rules when it comes to using and caring for them. While it may seem odd for these bedding essentials to come with certain guidelines, it’s important that you are using them in the best way to ensure a longer lifespan and a more comfortable sleep. Let’s take a look at what to consider when it comes to your inserts.
Duvet & Pillow Insert Dos
Use a duvet & pillow cover.
Without properly covering your duvet and pillow in your preferred cover, it is much more likely that you will have to replace them sooner. Dust, dirt, grime, and germs are all easily attracted to your inserts, hence why covers are so important. Try our very popular Yalda duvet cover for protection and style, and our brand-new durable pillow protectors for breathable, yet protective sleep.
Machine wash in cold water on a gentle cycle.
When it comes time to wash your inserts, make sure you wash them in cold water on a gentle cycle for the best results. Using hot water and a stronger cycle could damage the inserts and ruin their shape, fluff, and shell.
Dry with wool balls.
Using wool dryer balls or tennis balls in the dryer aids in redistributing the down in the pillow or duvet and helps it retain its fluffiness. Without this trick, it can be difficult to get your insert back to its original form.
Duvet & Pillow Insert Don'ts
Do not use harsh detergents, fabric softeners, dryer sheets, or powdered detergents.
Using very harsh chemicals when washing your inserts can harm the shell leading to deterioration and irreversible damage. Be sure to use the right amount of detergent, as excess can be just as harmful.
Avoid washing with other items.
Any items with zippers, hooks, buttons, etc. can cause abrasion and ruin the outer shell. The best way to completely avoid this is to ensure they are washed separately and not in the same load.
Do not iron or steam inserts.
The outer shells are not made to withstand harsh pressed heat as that can also hurt the inserts. The fluff inside is delicate and should not be exposed to such harsh treatment. To get the best results with your inserts, use dryer balls and fluff them out when they come out of the dryer.
It’s important to keep these in mind so that you are taking the best care of your inserts. With proper care and usage, your inserts will last years to come and continue to provide you with the comfiest night’s sleep!
