Meet Parima
Growing up, I was always surrounded by the textiles industry. My father worked as a developer of bedding, so I knew more about textiles than your average ten-year-old but I never thought it would become my passion.
While I was completing my Political Science degree at Rutgers University, I was shocked to hear major retailers were marketing and mislabeling products as 100% Egyptian cotton, when in truth they were using the name of Egyptian Cotton to mark up prices on blended-cotton bedding.
It was obvious to me a change had to be made. Coming out of college with the spirit and drive of a determined young millennial and with my father's 30 years of textile and home expertise as guidance, I set out to shake up the bedding industry and set a new standard.
I created Pure Parima to bring back real luxury bedding based on our transparency and your valued trust. We hold ourselves to the highest standard by sourcing certified raw materials and producing timeless designs to bring back quality bedding that's truly luxurious. What about Thread Count?
We all hear the term "thread count" thrown around a lot when it comes to bedding, but what does it all mean? And does a higher thread count actually mean a better quality product?
Thread count refers to the total number of horizontal and vertical threads in one square inch.
Many bedding companies market thread count as an important factor for consumers to consider when purchasing a set of sheets. The age-old saying "the bigger the thread count, the more luxurious the sheets," became a way for companies to increase profits without increasing the quality of their product
But speak to any textile expert and they'll tell you it's a dishonest marketing tactic. As Pat Slaven, textile expert at Consumer Reports says, “Now you see 1,000 thread count sheets but you just can’t get that many threads on a loom.”
It is physically impossible to fit more than 800 threads in a square inch, so how is it that companies are selling 1000, 1500, or even 1800 thread count sheets?
In order to understand, we have to break down the process of how cotton becomes a fabric.
The Process
FARM TO BRAND
It starts with purchasing Egyptian Cotton from certified farmers in the Nile River Valley to ensure the cotton is hand-picked and authentically pure.
Next, the Cotton Egypt Association performs an audit on our mill and DNA tests our products to certify our use of pure 100% Egyptian Cotton
Once the DNA results of the products are approved for authenticity, Pure Parima is granted the Accredited Gold Seal from the Cotton Egypt Association (CEA).
