As we near the end of summer, many of us are coming home from vacation and going back to school and work, slowly getting back into our usual routine. With schedule and weather changes, it’s important to pay attention to the effect this has on our bodies and what we can do to eliminate discomfort from allergies and stress. Take a look at some of our tips for handling incoming allergies and any potential mental or physical discomfort this time of year.
Use a Humidifiers/Dehumidifiers
Depending on the severity of your allergies, you may want to try using a humidifier or dehumidifier, whichever works best for you and your symptoms. These will help balance the humidity level in your room which can reduce sinus pressure and common allergy symptoms.
Take Warm Showers
This is a great way to reduce stress and clear your sinuses which is perfect for a drastic change in weather. The steam from the hot water will soothe and cleanse your airways and keep you feeling comfortable day and night.
Use Allergy-Friendly Bedding
A lot of sheets and comforters use materials that may irritate you while you sleep and aggravate your allergies even more. Look for comforters and duvets that are 100% hypoallergenic such as our down duvet inserts. Our down is double-washed, quadruple rinsed, and tested again and again for assurance that our duvets are filled with allergy-free down keeping you comfortable all night long. For extra precaution, it is wise to use a pillow protector between your pillow and pillowcase for additional protection from any allergen buildup on your pillow. Simply wash your protector and pillowcase routinely for the best results.
Another great tip is to use only bedding that is free from harmful chemicals that could be used in the manufacturing process. To ensure this, look for the OEKO-Tex label on your linens so you can be assured that you are sleeping on the safest sheets.
Wash Your Sheets
This may not come as a surprise to most, but consistently washing your sheets is important, especially during allergy season. In addition to removing any dirt, stains, or oils, this also helps wash away any allergens, dust buildup, and other irritants that may be affecting your allergies. Use sheets that are made with certified materials and do not contain potentially harmful allergy-inducing chemicals. Opt for Egyptian cotton sheets for authentically safe bedding. Our ultra soft and breathable Egyptian cotton sheets and duvet covers are made from extra-long staple cotton fibers certified by the Cotton Egypt Association and all of our products are OEKO-Tex certified for authenticity and peace of mind.
