Before you toss your next load of bed linens in the wash, it’s important to consider a few tips that you should follow prior to each cycle. Following these steps will allow for a more thorough clean and increase the longevity of each piece that you are washing. Separate Like Colors, Whites & Darks

It’s important to sort out your laundry loads by color for the best results. Separating your colors, whites, and darks helps to avoid dye transfer which can damage your lighter pieces. For example, if you wash black sheets with a beige pillowcase, the black dye can bleed onto the pillowcases, ruining the color and fabric. This is especially important when you are washing your linens for the very first time as there can be excess dye on new textiles that just came from the manufacturer. 

Avoid Overfilling the Washer

Try to wash only one bedding set at a time as overloading the washer with too many pieces can be too much for the washer to handle. Additionally, too many pieces can make it easier to wrap up in a cluster, leaving the load unevenly washed. So, while this may be saving time, it can actually lead to more loads in the end in order to properly wash each and every piece thoroughly. 

Turn Pillowcases & Duvet Covers Inside Out 

We recommend turning all pillowcases, shams, duvet covers, and other open pieces inside out to keep any zippers and buttons from breaking as well as damaging the washer. This also helps to minimize abrasion and protect any decorative elements that can be harmed during the wash and dry cycle. 

Pre-Treat Stains Properly

If any of your linens have unwanted stains, it’s best to properly pre-treat them before washing them.
