How to Declutter Your Bed without Sacrificing Style
Sometimes the best thing for a space is to “remove”. While this may not be as fun as adding your favorite pieces, it can dramatically change the way the space feels and bring a bigger and more luminous look to the room. The same can be said for your bed! Having the right amount of pieces layered ever so perfectly can create a cozy, inviting bed that doesn’t overwhelm the bedroom. Take a look at some of the tips and tricks we recommend when decluttering your bed.
Limit Decorative Pillows
Piling on too many decor pillows can have a negative effect on the outlook of your bed space. Try using a maximum of 3-5 pillows depending on the size of your bed for a balanced and luxurious look. It’s also a good idea to mix and match the sizes of pillows. In other words, try to bring in lumbar and euro pillows together to create a functional dynamic. This is not to say you can’t have fun decorating the bed, but it’s good to be mindful of the number and style of pieces you include.
Choose Solid Shades
Using solid colors on the bed is an easy way to create a less cluttered look. If two beds have the same amount of linens layered on top but one is solid and the other is prints, the printed bed may seem more cluttered even though it has no more pieces than the solid bed. It’s all about illusion and balance. If you prefer a print, try pairing it with solid pillows or a solid throw. Always try to incorporate a balanced color and texture palette so that your room gives off a subtle, but sumptuous vibe.
Swap Instead of Add
This trick is especially beneficial during the holiday season. If you plan to incorporate holiday pillows, or perhaps just fell in love with a new throw, try swapping them out with the original pieces. This helps keep the balance, while still changing the aesthetic. Any linens that you are not using should be stored properly in a cool, dry place for longevity. Another great tip for swapping is by simply changing out the shams instead of the entire pillow. Choose a quality, reliable pillow like our Down Alternative Euro Pillow and create your own look by swapping euro shams for a new take on your space.
Use Cohesive Textures
Adding texture is becoming even more popular in the world of bedding. Texture brings a natural balance to any space as it helps to break up the two dimensional fabrics and prints we all know and love. However, a good rule of thumb is to ensure that the textural pieces work well with your existing pieces. Do the colors compliment each other? Are there elements of the textural piece that bring out the existing pieces? These are just some questions to consider when adding more to the space.
