How to Clean Your Pillowcase

pure parima egyptian cotton pillowcases

Practicing proper hygiene when it comes to your pillowcase is very important for a clean, comfortable sleep. Since you lay your face directly on your pillow every night, a high amount of oil, skin cells, lotion and other residue can get quickly trapped and stuck on your pillowcase leaving you with a higher risk of acne and irritation. Consider implementing these tips when cleaning your pillowcase for the most thorough, reliable clean.

Routine Cleaning

A key component to the upkeep of your pillowcase is washing it weekly, if possible. Along with your sheets, these consistently used linens should be given a deep cleaning once a week. Avoid hot water to eliminate the risk of shrinkage and pre-treat any stains with detergent and rub it in to remove as much as possible and let the washer do the rest of the work. Take a look at our stain guide for an in-depth look at how to treat various types of stains.

Use Gentle Detergent

It’s recommended that you use a gentle detergent not only for your pillowcases, but the rest of your sheets. We recommend using a mild, liquid, and biodegradable detergent that is free of strong stain-removing chemicals, whiteners, brighteners, softeners, or bleach, as these harsh chemicals can weaken the fine Egyptian cotton fibers and cause color loss over time.

Separate Colors

If you are washing a bulk load of linens and pillowcases, keep your colors and whites separated if you can, This will help to avoid any dye transfer and eliminate damaging your linens. Avoid overfilling the washing machine by only washing one unfolded bedding set at a time.

Store Properly

Storing your linens is just as important as washing them in order to keep them at their best. Once fully dried, keep them neatly folded in a cool, dry area like a linen closet for protection against mold, discoloration, and deterioration. We recommend using a fabric pouch or sustainable box or bin to keep them stored properly, this way they have an added layer of protection for increased longevity.
